It is important to eat fresh and healthy foods during pregnancy. Fruits are a great idea, but do you know which fruits to eat and which ones to avoid?

#1 Apricots
Apricots are a small powerhouse loaded with Vitamin A, C, E, beta carotene, phosphorus, silicon, calcium, iron and potassium, all of which are very important for baby’s healthy growth. The best part of the delicious fruit is that the flesh and the kernel can be eaten. You can easily pop 2-4 apricots in a day.

#2 Cherries
You’ll need plenty of vitamin C if you want to fight off problems like the common cold or rashes. Keep a stock of cherries just for that. Besides the vitamin C, cherries also facilitate a good supply of blood to baby, and give you melatonin, a potent antioxidant hormone.

#3 Grapes
When you’re tired and rest with your feet up, carry a bowl of grapes to the couch. A great snack, grapes contain essential nutrients like glucose, fructose, galic acid, silicic acid, oxalic acid, pholbaphene, pectin, magnesium, calcium, iron, folic acid and vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12, A, C, P, PP and K. And the fruit is also absolutely delicious.

#4 Guava
Indian women are lucky that way. Guava, a tropical fruit, can help regulate your immune system and keep blood pressure normal while you’re pregnant. Moreover, it contains vitamin C, vitamin E, iso-flavonoids, carotenoids and polyphenols. The fruit also spurs your baby’s central nervous system.

#5 Apple
Eating apple during pregnancy works in many ways. The fruit helps enhance the immunity and strength of your baby, and reduces the chances of your baby getting asthma or eczema later in life. You will also get a healthy dose of vitamins A, E and D and zinc.

#6 Mango
If you happen to be pregnant during mango season, go ahead; eat as much as you want to. Eating mango during pregnancy supplies you with vitamin C, much needed to regulate digestion, reduce constipation and offer relief from small infections.

#7 Watermelon
Quench your cravings with a fresh, juicy watermelon. The fruit is a rich source of vitamin A, C and B6, and also magnesium and potassium. It is also a good source of fibre. Women have been known to get relief from morning sickness because of this fruit.

#8 Chikoo (sapodilla)
Chikoo is good during and even after pregnancy. The fruit is loaded with electrolytes, vitamin A, carbohydrates and energy. The fruit keeps nausea in check and also soothes conditions like irritable bowel syndrome.

#9 Custard Apple
Say yes to custard apple for baby’s eyes, skin, hair, and body tissues. The fruit contains high levels of fibre and also rich antioxidants, which detoxifies you during your pregnancy.

#10 Banana
The simple banana is an incredibly healthy fruit to keep on hand during your entire pregnancy. It contains folate, vitamin C and B6, potassium and magnesium. Eating one banana a day during your first trimester is highly recommended.

Now that you know which fruits to eat, take care to not consume too many blueberries or raw papaya in pregnancy. Tossing a few blueberries in your breakfast cereal or having ripe papayas is still fine. However, do consult your doctor before making drastic additions to your regular diet.
